Basically my mini looks like its had a head unit at somepoint with speakers in the parcel shelf ( which are still there) but when removing the radio have cut the plug off and left a jumble of coloured wires and I have no idea where to start with it. Anyone able to help out?

Open a photobucket account.

Upload your pics to that, then copy and paste the 'img' link to here.

i've swapped out a few head units... this is what i seem to find...

yellow is normally the +12v permanent feed (always has 12v)

red is normally the switched +12v (comes on with ignition)

black is normally negative (to chassis)

then theres possibly some optional ones like:

-blue/white= power antenna

-blue= aux power (for amp)

-orange/white= dimmer (lights come on, head unit dims)

the speaker ones may vary, but they come in pairs!

easiest way is to look at the back of your speakers that are in and match the colours up!!

hope this helps!

Oh that might actually be perfect as it will help with getting the pins right as it already has some cable. Will try get that ordered soon and use the help from here to fix it. Cheers

The pins on the back of the head unit change from brand to brand... If its a new head unit, it should have come with a connector... But if you dont have one, it would be easier to buy one than to hardwire it into the car

It's the car that didn't have one someone's cut it off for some bizzare reason
