can the poly bushes on the front subframe make that feeling that the subframe / engine  moving

like a clunk clunk foot on foot off the type when the top engine steady worn. Or when those rubber mounts at the top worn

its definitely not the engine moving

if you put a crowbar in where top mounts are with the wheel off  you can see some movement there

I thought it might diff movement or driveshafts hows best way to check as its realy annoying

I posted this a few weeks ago...

I think they should be removed from sale at all mini specialists, absolute rubbish, mine lasted on the car for less than 100 miles. I still have a bit of movement but I think it is either my tiebar bushes or an inner arm bush(es). I replaced every single bush including engine mounts and dog bones, top and bottom of tower bolts the lot, I think the tower ones will be ok and I dont see that the front of front subframes do that much really, I am really glad I went for standard lower engine mounts though, poly in the dog bones are fine too.

The only way to properly mount the front sub-frame is with all solid mounts. Anything else is less than ideal.

Im thinking it will be switched to solid mount when the subframe comes out for the rebuild, I agree and poly makes it worse as its too pliable compared to the bonded hard rubber.

As I've mentioned before, the rubber mountings came about when the 'target market' for new Mini sales moved from the younger age range to middle-aged ladies. The rubber mountings were to improve the NHV, but that really didn't work too well and it introduced other issues such as mounting failures, reduced driving dynamics and general 'sloppiness' as the mountings wore.

Sir Alec always intended the front sub-frame to take dynamic loadings and it was made very strong to enable it to do this. Rubber mountings prevent this from happening properly.

Don't even mention poly-mountings, they are an abomination!
