Hi;

Before I MOT my Mini I probably need to give it a service. I have looked for a servicing kit on Minispares but cannot find one, thought they sold them?

Found this one anyone used Bull Motif Mini Spares before? It comes with NGK plugs, i'd prefer Champion to be honest.

For the service I guess I Need:

Oil Filter

Air Filter

Spark Plugs

Do I also need:

Rotor Arm

Points

Distributor Cap

What type of Oil do I need?

Will modern Oil be OK or do I need to buy the Halford Classic Oil?

Also need a Grease Gun and some Lithium Grease?

For a service you need:

A set of spark plugs

An oil filter

An air filter

You might not need points, although it is a good idea to change them anyway. Set the points gap to 0.015 and check the plug gaps at 0.025" before fitting.

You do not need a rotor arm and definitely don't need a distributor cap as these are not service items.

With regard to oil you need a quality 20w50 mineral oil (don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise). Castrol Classic 20w50 is OK for a road car.

Fill the new filter before fitting it in order to prime it.

You need a set of feeler gauges to re-set the valve clearances to 0.012" cold using the 'rule of nine' to do this.

Inspect the fan belt, tighten it and if it has any splits or cuts then fit a new one.

Geeze engine oils expensive?!?!?

Just been comparing servicing kits etc.

Bull Motif do a complete servicing kit (Air Filter, Oil Filter, Rotor Arm, Points, NGK Plugs, Distributor Cap, Condensor) without oil for £28.74 (Includes postage) and Castrol XL 20/50 5 Litres from Classic Oils in Aylesbury is £32.95 (Includes postage)

Total £61.69

A Series Spares do a complete Engine Service kit, for the Silver version which includes Oil Filter, Air Filter, Points, Condensor, Copper Cored NGK Plugs, Rocker Cover Gasket and 5 Litres Unipart Pro M300 20W50 Oil. £46.05 and shipping will be about £10

Total About £56

The A Series Kit works out slightly cheaper and is all Unipart products what do we reckon?
