Hi y'all

While im knee deep in the resto of my Si, and while working on the floor/trans tunnel, I had a thought.....

The fasteners that hold the heat shields in place had all but corroded off. I was thinking about using M5 riv-nuts as I doubt they'd show under the carpets..

Then a thought came into my head and I was wondering, Do these heat shields contain the dreaded Asbestos?? They look ropey around the edges and are delaminating a little..

When I removed them I thought the same thing and very carefully took them off while wearing a paint spraying half mask, gloves ect.....I virtually wrapped them up before hand so minimising risk/ if any......

I just seem to be paranoid when it comes to my Health and Safety and always mask up for everything.

I'll have to use something to protect the floors from the heat of the cat..is there a ceramic alternative if the originals contain the 'A' word??

You can buy metal heat shielding in sheets from eBay.

If you're doing a full resto and the heat shield looks ropey, I'd just replace it for a metal one.

Not sure if you'd need something heavier duty for the CAT though.
