Question from a friend, he's got a head gasket which is copper on one side and fabric on the other, which way up please

Copper side up. They normally have 'top' pressed into the gasket, but some dont. Remind him to reset the valve clearences after refitting the cylinder head too :)

also make sure the oil feed hole is on the correct side (water pump end of block)

 

have seen some cheap ones with only one oil hole in the gasket - but gasket can fit both ways

Thanks, I've never seen a cheap gasket like that
