Hi,

I am new to minis and only just joined the forum but I have a query...

I realise that the 2 clutches are totally different beasts - but I have an A+ engine from a Metro, but I purchase a new pre verto slave cylinder as a replacement for the old one - this was before I realised about the 2 different clutches - said that I was a newbie!

Because I live in Malta I cannot just buy the replacement verto slave, bracket & shorter arm easily or cheaply!

In essence both clutches use the same principal - so can I use the longer arm & pre verto slave to achieve the same results?

Regards

Simon

I know that using a verto short arm on a non-verto clutch will work, but it's very heavy and without any sensitivity - either on or off.  Not experienced it the way you describe, I suspect based on the above that the long arm will probably not move the verto plunger in and out far enough to correctly operate the clutch.

The only way to know for sure is to try it and see.

Phil.

They have the same diameter bore, so you should be able to get it to work. The Verto cylinder casting first appeared on pre Verto Metros, I've never investigated to see if they are identical - I suppose they'd have the same part number if they are.

The mini I just sold had a verto clutch but non verto cylinder and clutch arm. It also had no clutch spring and the bolts from the case had been removed. It worked well.

Dont remove the bolts. It will cause extra wear.

Please read the FAQ entry about the different clutch systems.
