while fishing for ball park quotes today I was asked the "modifications" question. to which I responded about the sports pack. insurer wanted to know what this entailed, so I explained about 13" wheels and arch extensions.

They weren't interested at all in the wheels but wanted to know about the arches and were they dealer options or factory fitted? to which I replied I'd no idea. since there aren't many rover dealers to query it with. long story shortened- I can insure it with them provided I remove the wheel arches!

anyone else experienced this nonsense?

suffice to say they won't be getting the business.

What model is your car?

What does it say on the logbook for model/derivative?

need to know if it's a sportspack model as Jordan said.

But even so, why would it be a problem? Unless your insurance company don't insure modifcations

If it is a sportspack model from the factory, the arches and wheels are standard equipment, so not declared as modifications.

If you cant get insured with that company due to some wheel arches, then id be looking elsewhere.

You have to be carful with modifications. People say that you should declare even factory fitted optional extras, but who actually does this? That would mean declaring things like metallic paint.

This is very true, and like mentioned previously it's very hard to see what add ons/extras were fitted from factory on an older car like a Mini. I am having this trouble myself when looking at insurance for my car :(

Just for info, the Sportpack (or Sports Option Pack as they called it) consisted of:

Additional gauges in the facia

13" x 6" Sports Style alloy wheels

175/50 R13 radial ply tyres

Large body coloured extended wheelarches

2 x driving lamps and 2 x fog lamps

Sports accelerator pedal

Large bore chrome tailpipe finisher

That's from the original sales catalogue.
