I love this idea, although rumor has it that Tanya has an entry in each class  :D

"The first event of its kind in Britain, Festival of the Unexceptional: A Concours de l’Ordinaire, brought to you by Hagerty, will jovially highlight how the cars we grew up with are simply vanishing. Ponder this: There are twice as many Ferraris on the road in the UK than Austin Allegros! We’ll bring together the 50 best examples of a wide range of models to be judged by Hagerty’s handpicked group of unexceptional “experts.” An award of dubious value will go to the overall winner. Petty bribes for the judges are strictly encouraged, as is period dress. We prefer our trousers and jackets to be like our car interiors: no natural fibres, please!"

Ha ha!!  Yes, we'll be there!  The Festival of the Unexceptional has been making it into the motoring sections of the weekend broadsheets over the past few weeks.  Milly and I were referred to in the Daily Mail and I was mentioned by name in the Telegraph!  My friends keep telling me that there is nothing to be proud of getting yourself in the Daily Fail and Torygraph, but surely that's better than the Daily Sport!

The late Princess of Wales' old Metro will be joining us, long with lots of old BL crap - I can't wait! :D

I'm taking the unexceptional, unrestored Milly (who of course is now exceptional as she's survived)

And Jason's taking Pooh - who said you couldn't polish a turd! ;D

This is my Austin confession time, back when I was about 14, we had never ever ever owned a decent car, my dad's car history was a mix of works vans, Talbot Sunbeams and some dodgy brown fiat that never worked properly. The company he worked for finally took pity on him and let him buy at scrap value one of the Sales Reps cars that was due for replacement at 100K

We became the proud owners of an Austin Montego with all the latest mods of the day (twas a rep car after all), power steering, electric windows, central locking, although it stopped short of having air conditioning, this was still the 80's after all.

We thought we had hit the jackpot and loved that car until my dad traded it in 12 years later for a Vauxhall Nova Saloon, if it was still with us today, I would have been proud to be unexceptional.

What a lovely story!  Now, if you were like me, you'd be trying to track down a similar one - I did it with my Montego :D.  It took me a year to find a decent one (there are so few about now), and to my amazement it was the same spec, colour, year and also an M reg.  To complete my euphoria, it was even an ex Rover Management car, registered out of Longbridge just like my first one.  At least Jason knows when he stands no chance of saying no, so shut up and let me buy Montgomery!  Here's Montgomery doing what he does best.  My nephews know resistance is useless - they ARE going in the boot!

So, what colour, spec and reg was your Montego?

Damn. Why was this not on Sunday. I'm picking up another car on Saturday and it would off been a great place to give it a showing, oh well back to plan A.

That's a shame, but what are you picking up? Have you seen the light? Is it a Maestro?
