hi
I have got a '96 sportspack cooper which ticks over from start ok but when I press accelerator and then take my foot off the revs stay quite high!!
does anyone know what causes this?

sticky throttle cabe or worst case scenario, cracked/warped throttle body

There's a very good chance the trottle body is to blame. I've a '96 Sportspack similar to yours and this was the cause in my case. Here's my previous post on this subject...

they dont drop rev particularly quickly at idle. i know mine doesnt. throttle body is good and speedo cable isnt sticking.
unless its sticking overly long like 5 - 10 secs i wouldnt be too concerned mate.
