trying to figure out that best route, you can get the ferry from Kiel - Klaipeda but that cuts out of a lot of driving.

I guess you could look at ferries to Rotterdam or Esbjerg on the way from the UK, get your longer ferry stint done at the start and end. But then it's still a 1000 mile drive from Rotters I think. 1000 miles, 2 days with some nicely planned stops along the way?

Hmmm... 3429.97miles from my house and back. Perhaps not in the mini...

Well, 400-500 miles a day is kinda OK. Much more than that and it becomes a massive chore for me.
When we do the Germany run, we go from Dunkirk to Nurburg in one day, that's about 250-300 miles (depending on route taken) and takes about 5-6 hours in a Mini.

I'll have to start saving, but it's in my plans to go there. It is approx 1750 km's (roughly 1100 miles) from where I live. Which is only 120 km's further then my first IMM in Spain.
Can't be too much of a problem to make the trip.
Well, saving... Toll roads in Poland are much cheaper opposed to those I had to cross to reach Spain (19 euro's vs 75 euro's each way). Add to that the cheap food, drinks and overnight stays in Poland and Lithuania and it won't be that expensive at all compared to other trips.

There is a ferry from Kiel,Germany to Klaipeda, Lithuania that takes 21 1/2 hours.
The prices for next year are not out yet but for two people traveling in September I'm getting a quote for €314 which reserves a reclining seat but not a cabin. But Kiel is still 500 miles from Calais and Klaipeda is 250 miles from the IMM site which is roughly a saving of 450 miles over driving all the way. Even if you take into account the money saved on petrol and hotels it's still pretty expensive but it would be a great to sail the Baltic.

I did Essex to the 2010 IMM in Neumarkt, Germany in one day which was a grand total of 625 miles. It was a killer and decided from then on to keep a days driving to around 300 miles to take the pressure off the drivers and allow a little sight seeing. The following years trip to Switzerland over two days was much nicer!

I'm really seriously considering doing this. There is a group from out club looking into it.

I live in The Netherlands, but yes I'm planning to drive trough Germany and Poland instead of taking the ferry. If I tow my Eriba Puck, it will take at least 3 days driving, without the caravan it can be done in 2 days. I am used to drive long motorway distances, also in my Mini which is still comfy at 110 km/h (70mph) without the caravan and 90 km/h (55 mph) with the Puck on tow. That is, if I'm not driving in a group.
But, if work allows it, I will make it a road-trip holiday and take much longer than the minimum.
Remember: driving in groups slows you down by up to 50%, but ofcourse it increases the fun.
