Im looking into changing to a manual gearbox from an auto on a 1.3i - Can any one give me some info on which gearboxes would work and where about to get them from?

Know nothing about gearboxes so any info is helpful.
Cheers

Probs best to have this moved to technical and problems.

BUT i have heard that soemone on here has converted an auto to manual. quite tricky though. Your best way is to use a manual gearbox and engine and do a complete swap.

The auto engine is different to the manual with water and oil ways i believe and takes a fair bit of knowledge and messing to get it to work with a manul gearbox

As above... you can fit an auto block to a manual gearbox but the oil filter connection on the block needs to be drilled... much easier to get a whole manual unit and replace in one go...

You will also need, either a new manual front subframe, or spacers for the engine mounts, and obviously a clutch pedal and associated parafanalia.

You must also consider that this will be deemed as a modification by insurance companies, and will increase your premiums...

The alternative, which I would do, is sell the auto mini and by a manual one, saves alot of messing around.

Moved to technical.

I thought the oilways in the auto block were different to the manual, so you can't mix and match blocks on the auto gearbox? I know this to be true on the carb engines at least.

No way im selling the car - this car has been kept in a garage for 10 years and only done 10k, im not letting it go!
Ive been told by a couple of people that the swap is pretty easy on a Mini due to the fact the auto box they put on was pretty C**p in the first place, so still gonna look into it - Ill rng the insurance company and see what they say as I wondered how much of a modification this will be.

If it is really gonna be different ill just wait a couple of year for my no claims to go up then put a proper engine in!
