Hi,

Been advised by member here that the cure to my rough running when engine cold at revs between idle and 1500 rpm will probably be a timing issues (not vacuum advance, or lean fuel)

I have been advised to loosen holding bolt on distubutor, then warm engine to a stable temp and rev, then turn clockwise 1mm at a time and Listen the the engine revs, aiming for max tickover, then turn off engine and do bolt back up.

Is this safe and the best way to do it? Just want to get it running for Santa pod this weekend, then I hope to get it on a rolling road and set properly!

Thx

Cool thanks, will be doing it now, ste3po has been a real help with great simple advise, I was just double checking to Mae sure (never done this sort of thing and did not want to do it wrong!)

Thanks this is a great forum for learning and some great people helping newbies like me!

If you turn the distributor so as to get max idle its will pink and detonate terrible, you really need to set it with a timing light or leave it alone to someone who has, its not as easy as saying rough running between idle and 1500 will be the timing, You should carry out a full engine tune inc the timing and then road test and then look at the carbutation

+1 for Kernow Cooper's comments above.

I hope you're not planning to run it down the strip at the weekend?

Hi thanks for your comments, no just planning to get to the strip for the mini show (not going down it!) :-)

I have it booked into a specialist on Monday now for a complete rolling road set up and tune, I am sure he will get to the bottom of it!

Fingers crossed it gets me to Santa pod and back! (Camping so have provisions and a tent should the worse happen on route on Saturday :-)
