Hello,

I have a MINI One 2007 with 70, 000 miles on the clock. The engine warning light came on and I've been told that it has low compression. Here are the numbers:

1 - 200
2 - 180
3 - 90
4 - 180

The garage said that it's probably a problem with the valves and that they'll have to take the head off to fix it and that it will probably cost around £700 to fix. Can anyone tell me if this is normal for a mini like this please? Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Do you have any advice for me please?

Thank you very much.

If you are an experienced mechanic you can take the head of yourself and fix whatever needs to be fixed.

If not : you will need to rely on the garage.

THis difference in compression is absolutely NOT normal.

It could be head gasket, valves, or piston rings. Without taking the head off you can only speculate.
