Iv followed some instruction from a smiths counter my mate has the same counter but a 10.000 rpm one

But mine isn't working it has power as the needle moves a tiny bit when ignition on

There are only 2 wires I have not connected but the previous owner had not touch either which is a brown and blue wire and the re and white which is dash lights
The instruction say set the switches to how many cylinders you have and press or full the toggle I take it the small white button

Anyone know how to set it up

I have earthed it
Run a wire to the coil
And one to ignition live

For a 4 cylinder engine all the switches need to be set to "off" downwards. The exception to this switch 3 which may need to "on" if previous does not work.

Yes.  All 4 switches set to OFF for a 4-cylinder, 4-cycle engine.  Also see the link below for the instrument's instructions.

Obviously make sure the black wire gives you a good earth connection and the green wire needs switched 12V on it.  There are two possible sense wires to connect to coil (-) (red/blue and white/black).  Regardless of what the instructions say, if the tach does not work with the wire you have connected now, disconnect that wire and try the other.
