hi, im getting an engine ready to go in my mini and have been doing a bit of tlc to the aesthetics. The block is mowog green and there are various other bits going black. There are a few parts though that if possible id like to have looking bare metal and shiny. The oil filter pipe i have got very nice and shiny after some wire brushing and a bit of brasso. What can i do to keep this shiny when the engine is used as obviously it will get hot and be subject to water salt ect and is made of steel? Id also like to do the same to some other bits such as gearbox, carb and alloy rocker cover.

advice and help much appreciated.

I would just use a bit of chrome polish or 1500 grit sand paper every now and then maybe followed by a bit of car way. As long as it is not open to the elements and kept dry you should be pretty okay.

You could maybe try some of that clear gloss lacquer in a spray can if you're really desperate but I would imagine you couldn't have the metal too shiny or it wouldn't stick.
