ok so i have already done a search on synthetic car paint for respraying my 1994 sprite.

The reason for this is my local paint shops both don't sell celly anymore and advised me to use 1k synthetic. As I said I wasn't keen on 2pack even though the results from it are better its my health i would rather think about. I have already sprayed the car in cellulose primer and on the inside of the doors bonnet etc. I used rattle can primer because i ran out.

The guys in the shop both said synthetic over celly is ok but not the other way round and its more or less a straight finish from the gun and polish NO colour sanding.

Has anyone used synthetic paint recently and got pictures of the finish.

Also does it react with rattle can spray which i think is normally acrylic correct me if i am wrong.

Forgive my long description just getting rather frustrated with selecting the right paint for the job and was set on using cellulose.

Synthetic, Blimey, a bit of a blast from the past. My dad used to spray synthetic about 20 years ago.
He called it steel, with a finish straight out of the gun. He says the only thing wrong with it was not being able to 'blend' in panels.
I'm looking at having my mini resprayed, and he said he would spray it with synthetic without hesitation.
No pics though I'm afraid.

2 pack and get a pro to do it? My bodyshop guy laughed at me when I mentioned anything other than 2k / water base

Synthetic is a little awkward if you want to do any polishing or touch ups later, maybe consider using clear over base but use UPOL smart 1K clearcoat, I have used this to good effect on repairs, not as good as 2k but not bad, another option is 2k direct gloss with the 1k air drying additive. If you want cellulose though its not hard to find.

I want to paint the car myself its never going to be a concourse car so driven and used basically but still would like a nice glossy finish. Have seen previous cellulose finishes on here and they are brilliant when done right. I have this afternoon managed to find another paint shop via a friend and some digging around. That do industrial based cellulose but will have to see what the quality is like and ask about it. Suppose so long as i use top gloss thinners and go for a decent clear laquer that will bring the shine out after a colour sand and polish.

As said i would love to paint it in 2k but as its at home and my neighbours are closed by I am avoiding it. Can't lay out the cost of another compressor to run an air fask fed not to mention the price of the air fed mask itself. sounds like I am scrimping i know but cellulose in my options is the easiest. Thanks daz

taking a bit cut out of the old door skins i replaced, which have the old colour on. can tell as well it was painted in 2k before as it chipped flakes off well at the edges when i used the tin snips.
The car is suppose to be JSA rover electric blue as in my avatar pic but its been resprayed in the past and i am almost certain its slightly darker and i like it that way.

Will update how i get on tomorrow when i visit the paintshop.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

lots of celly available by mail order on ebay either in stock colours or mixed to cod. I have used Jawel paints on ebay for celly and 2k over the last few years or so without a problem.

1k is fine.usually you can find 3 qualities. the chaep one is total rubbish  if you want to spray it by your self consider that is like spraing clear coat. must thicker although. but thats the way to have a smoother result. imo it needs more experience to sparay  1k than 2k water bone color. the second one is far more productive . with 1k you will need about 3-4 hands to have the same result as one and a half with water,,,

right guys thanks for the replies. I have just been down to my local paint shop and order 3.5 litres of blue cellulose and enough gloss thinners for the job. Came to £117 with VAT and delivered. (MONOPOL) is the label.  I got 3.5 litres because i not doing the roof blue thats going to be jet black.

Will post the results when done but still need to flat my primer/guide coat. Hoping we are gonna get a late indian summer so I have the weather to paint.

So all in all a success.
