Hi,

Can anyone suggest what upgrade I need to make to my HIF38 carb? - noobie!!

998cc A+ (Metro 1989)

Unknown 3-2-1 manifold (2 piece - is there is a single piece type?)

Unknown pancake filter (no markings at all, but seems in good order)

50mm Sportex twin silencer exhaust (brand new from Mini Sport UK)

I have purchased a SU service kit CSK78 from Mini Spares that is for the carb FZX-1530 (according to SU's own website)

The top of the damper has LZX 1511 stamped on it- not sure if that helps at all!

I know that the Stage one kits are normally complete from the manufacturer inc needles etc... as they are designed for that kit - but I have hand me downs from various donors- so a 'safe bet' will be helpful too - unfortunately I live in Malta - no rolling road here - nearest is Sicily apparently...mmmmm!

Any help would be appreciated!

Si

Hi Bubblebobbie!

Thanks for the reply! I have wondered if these would be suitable - just I don't know what the manufacturer is of the filter & LCB was.

I will drop them an email & see what they recommend.

As for the rolling road in Malta - will research some more - didn't know we had a drag strip so must be one somewhere - what I get for listening to guys at the bar lol!

I think its called Hal-Far  drag strip - i know that there are some serious mk1 ford escorts out there which would need setting up so you never know !! Good luck with it !

hey,

Yep...seen a few serious Mk1 belting around from time to time!..I mean belting!!..fearless here with not much police presence lol!!

OK found a rolling road at Attard - not far from Hal Far - will be giving them a visit when the mini is sorted!

Thanks

Si

Yes , from what i gather most mk1s have serious pinto engines [ 220bhp +] or coswoth engines upwards of 500bhp .!

Whoa!....does make sense though...my 1300XL didn't sound or go like those boys cars lol!

They modify everything they can here - parts not readily available so lots of japenese engines in uk classics....including diesel engines in MK3 cortinas...love it!

Thanks again!

hey,

Getting back to the original topic - I have just rebuilt the carb today with a service kit CSK78.

The needle is an 'AEG' - anyone know what this was from - have looked on the SU site but no further information.

Would this needle allow the car to run satisfactorily until I can source the correct one?

Si
