How long do I leave my nicely painted roof and car when painted in cellulose, before i can colour sand and buff.

It dried enough to touch it in no time roughly 20mins. Was gonna leave it at least a week but I'm not sure.

I would leave it  few days, de-nib. Then leave it a few more days then polish.

But don't take my word on it as i obviously haven't seen it for myself.

Thanks Ben_O i was going to give it a week or two. I have the rest of the car to wet sand gradually.

I pressume when you say denib the paint you mean pull any debris out the paint as i do have a few small pieces which is a disappointment but will  hopefully come out and polish up. As its black and there is also very slight orange peel I will be using 2000 wet and dry and G3 &G10 or similar.

want to be sure on the waiting time

If in doubt, then just leave it longer. De nibbing is flatting down any dirt or orange peel in the paint. The reason i suggested de-nibbing early on is that it breaks the skin of the paint and allows the solvent to evaporate quicker.

Also, sometimes if you de-nib and the polish straight after, you might find that your nib marks show up again a few days later and will need polishing again.

You can loose all of the orange peel if you very carefully flat it out, the key to success is to flat it wet and to keep drying it off often so you only sand as far as you need to. Black will appear a very flat Grey once flatted and if done right, you wont see any surface imperfections at all in the paint. That way when you polish it back up, it will be flawless.

Good luck!

Ben
