Hi can anyone provide an indication as to how much to pay for the clutch oil seal to be replaced? - i have done it recently and it leaks so i would rather pay for it to be done.

Thanks,

3 or 4 hours of labour? You may want to consider changing the clutch plate if you haven't already.

The Minispares uprated oil seal is very good, if you do get someone else to do it make sure they know mini's and supply a Minispares uprated seal, in theory the flywheel shouldn't be too difficult to get off because you just had it off

Remember its not always the seal, the primary gear might it worn. Or the seal damaged when installing it. The seal installation tool helps keep it square when installing it.

I have always had better luck with the double edged black seal

Could be the primary gear bushes as well, what sort of crank case ventilation are you running, could just be excessive pressure

Changing the primary gear bush will be beyond a lot of garages, even mini specialists, unless they have access to a machinist with a lathe....

The Rover book time for replacing the rear seal ( or clutch/primary seal as it's otherwise known ) is 0.2 hours, only problem is you need to add the 3.9 hours to remove and replace the clutch, so bank on 4 hours labour.

I doubt they will change the primary gear bush, it's not a 2 minute job, it has to be matched to your crank, unless you spend a lot of time on the clutch it will be fine, it only moves in relation to the crank when the clutch is pressed

On an MPI there will be higher labour costs as the brake servo etc has to be unbolted and moved out of the way. I'm sure you know this though. :P 4 hours sounds about right.
