Hi,

OK replacing at present front wiring harness on 998cc Saloon 1982.

Using Haynes manual as standard for the model & year -

1. Existing front indicators have 2 wires - one black, the other blue & yellow I believe from memory, anyhow it matches the Haynes manual.

But...the black wire on both sides has been taped up leaving the blue & yellow only connected.

2. The bulb holder itself should be earthed, using the self tapping screws into the body work?

New wiring harness has both black and blue & yellow - I am assuming I should just connect as in Haynes & not follow the existing installation as it is a new harness.

Is this just a more reliable way of connecting the earth than relying on rusting self tappers over time?

Regards

Si

After 1985 the front indicators changed to plastic bodied units that don't earth to the panel as they are screwed into plastic inserts. Probay to stop some of the front end corrosion. The earlier glass lens lamps are meant to earth to the panel but some do have a bullet socket for the earth cable anyway. And not all countries have things wired the same way, but all have the same harness. Your new loom covers more than 1 model is all. Myself I'd wire it using the earth cable, it'll be a lot more reliable.

You could extend the black cables from the lights and join to a suitable black wire in the loom. All black cables are earth so that will help and not rely on the body/lamp connection.

Hey Gazza,

The new loom has black going to the lamp, so like you said will rely on this earth as I know it has a good connection to the body rather than the screws.

Thanks

Si
