hi, I've just renewed my minis car insurance with flx direct through compare the market.

they have requested loads of documentation which I have never been asked for before but that's fine I can sort that. One thing that does concern me though is That they want a copy of the v5 document? I am a bit reluctant to provide this out of the security of my car!! Has anyone else had requests like this from their insurance company?

No never been asked for V5C and would not provide it, they can get information they need from DVLA.

Can you not go to a specialist insurance broker rather than the comparison sites ?

Never , somethings not right .

I would look carefully who your with if they are small , i have seen stuff about fake insurance  companies that are just a bloke at home with a laptop  who send you a worthless piece of paper for your hard earned.

They can check details with the dvla .

Again. Never. All I've ever been asked for is proof of no claims.

Had to send prof of no claims, and a photocopy of both parts of my driving licence and the additional drivers licences. No request for logbook though.

the actual insurance company is groupama through flux direct. I'll phone up and check. Is there a flux direct representative on here?

Must admit - seems strange - as they should be able to get details from dvla with minimal effort ?

& +1 on fake insurance company's (not saying this one is)

Groupama isn't a fake company haha, I was insured with them last year but they didn't request my v5 or any documents.

well phoned up and the reason they want a copy of the v5 is because on the quote it had selected that I hadn't bought the car yet. so don't think theres any thing dodgy. they do seem excessively picky though they also want 6 pictures including external interior and the engine bay! not that they will be able to tell as its so oily in there! :-)
