How The Hell Do I Get This Off!?

im busy preparing to get my engine out on suday, and one of the last things i need to do is disconnect the rods from the transfer box (the technical terms escape me)... the top one looks simple enough, just a nut and bolt on each side, but its the bottom one that goes into the gearbox that has me stumped... the one with the weird cylinder piece. i cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it off! 

 

any ideas?

Put it into reverse and then knock the roll pin closest to the gearbox upwards with a pin punch.

This tool helps also, but as stated above you can use a pin punch.

And don't make the school boy error of not knocking it back in all the way,when the engine goes back in

In the absence of a suitable pin punch in the past ive used a screw driver with the appropriate sized shank with the point ground off or even a nail, not ideal but works!

I replaced mine with the quick release version, we'll how safe that is :L

In the absence of a suitable pin punch in the past ive used a screw driver with the appropriate sized shank with the point ground off or even a nail, not ideal but works!

very small Torx screwdrivers work a treat ;-)

i have the proper punch if you want to borrow it? or you could get a cheap small screwdriver and hacksaw the head off. this will do the job.

thanks for the offer mate, braintree isnt too far from me. ill have a go with what i can find in the garage and if all else fails than i might take you up on this  ;D

drill bit works too if your stuck for a punch.
