Basically my idea is to build one mean mayfair...
Currently the cars black with black alloys , black bumpers & tinted glass
So an idea me & my dad came up with was to replace the chrome door handles & light surrounds for matt black ones to match the wing mirrors is there anywhere that does these or will it being a custom job
If custom , Am i looking at powercoating or sand down & spray ?
Sorry very new to this side of things
Cheers to any help
Jack

You can re-spray the chrome door handles and may i suggest the headlight rings?

You can do this by rubbing them down with wet and dry to sucff the plating and then apply an acid etch primer, then on with your colour.

I did this on my old Mercedes 190 using this method on the front grille frame and painted it body colour. It looked great and lasted well. I did it about a year before i sold it and it still looked immaculate when i sold it.

You would need to do the handles thoroughly though as they are obviously a high wear item

Hope this helps

Ben

EDIT: just realised you suggested the light rings anyway!

Well this is the grille off of my old car and the frame was chrome and i wanted it body colour. all i did was remove the grille ornament, weld the hole up, go over it with a 320 disc on a DA and then a couple of coats of Acid etch, then a few coats of high build, flat back and on with body colour. If done thoroughly it will last well as mine did.

Good luck!

Or rather than trying to paint over the top of chrome. Why not just swap over your door handles for grey/black versions (have a few going spare) and repaint those? the locks aren't exactly that difficult to swap over with just a clip on the door handles and a pin on the boot one. Even the designer came with factory grey headlamp trims that are prefect for repainting black.

I'll join you for this one, I am gonna be satin blacking my headlamp rings/door mirrors/grille and fuel cap too.

I did an experimental over rider too, with a very very corroded rusty one from an autojumble in hammerite hammered black. Didn't look too bad, but will be satin black for the others.

Another one would be the weather strip that goes on the door. These arent available in black.

For me, these will either be the only chromed piece on the car, or ill spray the brand new items I bought last month at IMM

Have you thought about carbon fibre headlamp rings? They look a bit better, and would go well with your boot lid!
