Good morning, I'm sure this has been asked a million times but I wondered if you could help. I went to start the mini this morning at about 06:40, And it was really lumpy when trying to drive down the road for at least 5 mins. I tried the choke in all different ways which didn't help, so pulled over.
I took the distributors cap off and sprayed contact cleaner in it. It then seemed to run like normal.
Am I using the choke wrong, or is it a distributed vs cold morning issue???
Thank you

Indeed, it is a perennial problem.  If you google"theminiforum electricdamp problems" you'll find many answers.

I went to leave work at half 7 last night, it started fine, but as I got onto the main road it coughed and splattered again. I'd been driving fir about 3-4 mins and nearly put the choke in. Was on the flat, just been up a hill. Just above the red on the fuel gauge.
Stopped the engine, took off and sprayed the distributor cap with contact cleaner and it started and ran nicely again.
Any more thoughts?? Thank you

As said, it sounds like a damp issue. Your dizzy cap my be cracked allowing moisture inside. I would replace it for a new item and fit a weather  shield. You can also spray silicone grease over all of the electrical components, or do the rubber glove trick. A quick serach on google. should help.

I still assume it's damp and the above advice is spot on, but sound like it could also be carb icing. Do mini's even suffer from it?

I'd still follow the above advice and see where it goes next.
