Hey All,

I've bought ctv 20/50 from swiftune, as recommended for a series, and believe this to be pretty good stuff to use for my 100bhp 1312 engine.

http://www.swiftune....ic-mini-5l.aspx

I'm about to use this, but my dads gone to moss today for a new CV joint, and is adamant that talking to a guy there, this oil will do something with the white metal in the engine, and kill it, as its only designed for race use.

Now, the engine is for fast road / weekend away use, so has a sw10, hardly high mileage, but im now stuck what to do.

Question is, who uses /has used this, and is it good? I was under the impression ctv was the way to go, after using the cheaper millers for over 10 years.

Thanks

I used to use the Millers Trans M semi synth with no issues, when that got hard to get hold of I used the valvoline VR1 mineral instead just because it was easier to get hold of.

I'd have no problems using the ctv in mine personally.

I use millers ctv for years now with no issues.. this has a rep for being the best stuff for the a series. Millers did publish some tests from matt woods mini a few years back in one of the mags... and it held up well

I can assure you that the Millers CTV semi synthetic oil is perfect for fast road and race use. The guys on the turbominis forum use it. The Millers Mini 20w50 and this CTV 20w50 oil are different from any other lubricant with the same grade as they use additives designed to be used with the gearbox and the engine components at the same time. Have a read of this:

I use this in Project 45, I also converted my brother to it, who now runs it in his race spec Mk3 Cooper S which won his class this year on the Manx Classic Hill Climb.

I had a slight concern regarding the EP additives (that help protect the gearbox to GL4 level) and the yellow metals in the engine.  So I phoned up the technical helpdesk and actually spoke to one of the chemists who helped develop the oil!  He was already over it and explained that those EP additives that can be harmful to yellow metals are old technology and the stuff they use won't interfere with them at all.  He said this oil was really developed for the Mini (how lucky are we) and the additive package is perfect for the good olde A series with it's combined engine and gearbox.

I use this and get no swarf on the magnetic plug!  It's the recommended oil by a-lot of the best A-series engine builders out there!

If you have any concerns give Millers a shout.  There technical guys are brilliant and really helpful.  They also offer an oil analysis service if you have any major concerns and how the oil engine is performing.

A better price for the oil than Swiftunes is..

Or give Opie oils a shout.  They offer forum discount but if you phone them with a large enough order they will usually be quite accommodating and give you a bit more discount.
