As per the title, anyone tried using rivnuts to fix arches or do the lips on the inserts get in the way? (I hate self tappers!!!!!)

yup, used the steel M5 ones to fix my old ones on. I wouldn't use the aluminium ones though, they're a bit soft and then you risk the steel bolt seizing in them too.

Cheers dude. I work offshore and they use stainless ones out there (although you can still get galvanic corrosion set in using stainless steel fixings in steel surroundings!! Just can't win eh?)

I'll give them a try later. Cheers.

this could be an awesome idea! has anyone tried using rivnuts to hold the grille and indicators on before? this would save me screwing self tappers straight into my freshly painted shell

I wouldn't like to put perminant fixings on the grill as it's quite useful to take off when you need to do some work. Unless you carry a drill around haha

Coopdog, I'm not sure if you are getting riv nuts confused with rivets. Riv nuts are unbolt able.

I had my fibreglass front end held on with riv nuts with no issues!

I've done arches, grille and headlight bowls with rivnuts in the past. They were all pretty much a waste of time due to either corrosion, stripping threads or spinning rivnuts.

Yes on the grill, i used M4 or M5 sized rivnuts (which usefully filled in the holes made by the nasty self-tappers)............

You will struggle a bit with the indicators unless using the MPI front panel as the panel cut-outs are there for spire clips.

Phil.

I've got them for the grille, much better than self tappers.

I've used them on my shell.. Headlights, grille, arches, fan, fusebox. Anything that needs bolting to the shell which isn't particularly heavy.

Much better than self tappers that cut into the paint and cause rust. I would also never use rivets as drilling them out is a hassle.

Just fitted an arch to my new wing with these. You can see them in the first pic. Excuse the ******* excuse for paint, it's only temporary.

.....and the arch fitted with stainless m6 bolts. I will use copper slip or something to stop them seizing when I'm finished fitting up the car after paint etc.

Really? I always thought SS was fairly inert?  Might have to revise some fixings if that's true.  >_<
