I have a 'Standard' 998 saloon from 1978 and there has been a few comments about the ride height...

The previous 'mature' owner was pretty good at keeping everything in order, so I can't image why he'd ever start playing with ride heights..

Anyway, with 10" wheels, (all tyres are the same profile I presume) what is the distance between the outside of the tyre and the upper most point of the arch..?

You'll probably have,to go and measure this, as it's not a std. point of measure.

Shouldn't it be measured from centre of the wheel to top of arch? Give me 5 mins and i'll go measure. I'm standard on 10s

Yes, when I look at all other std. 10" it's just a bit too high for my liking - not that I want it anywhere near yours (picture of Blue #22). just more like my old 1970's MiniCross Scalectrix set !!

It's possible there are a couple of reasons why it's sitting high.

First is has it had new cones fitted?? If so then it does take a while for them to settle.
Second is if the suspension has been apart then it's possible the knuckles are not sitting properly in their respective cups.
Third is if there are Hi Lo's fitted then they may adjusting down a turn or two.

Now if if one and two is a yes and three has not been fitted then fit some decent Hi Lo's and you can adjust the height accordingly.

Sadly, I have no history as to what has been fitted (recently). The rear subframe looks in great condition and is definately new(ish). As for cones, not an expert, so can't say either way. Have had it up on a ramp with all wheels off & can't imagine I'd miss the fact that they're Hi-Lo's. But will endeavour to specifically look & take photos for you guys..

cheers

You think my wife will let me just go and do stuff on the mini...!

It's in a lock up about a mile away, so I'm off now for a sunday morning walk with the dog via the mini.....

Well, that's interesting:

Firstly, not Hi-Lo's

Secondly, the apparent gap is not so big as expected.. front 'gap' is 6,0cm whereas the rear is 7,0cm - so perhaps it's an optical illusion coupled with a new rear subframe set up.? No way of ever knowing how old everything is but will look again in 6 months to see if it settles in.?

Cheers again
