What tightening my battery connections the other day and spotted that my spare wheel was kinda funny looking, the tyre is solid! i noticed that the tyre is a dunlop denovo, was that a special tyre for the GT's??
the actual wheel itself is a 12 inch wheel and looks like it has been home-made! bit like a split rim but not dished or wide, jsut steel!

any ideas guys as i was just thinking if ever i get a flat i could be fooooked!

They are a run-flat tyre, fitted to GT for a time.

be fine as a spare, but they are (were at the time) heavy and expensive so not very popular.

you've reached the limit of my knowledge on the subject, they might be mentioned in the haynes.

yep, I have to keep spare wheel nuts and two wrenches in the car in case of a flat.

Wasn't the Denovo the tyre that everyone binned as soon as they could as if you went over 30MPH in the wet, you were guaranteed to be facing backwards more than forwards?

I guess its a thing of beauty for those originality buffs out there though.

See here under Clubman & 1275GT, about halfway down.

the Dunlop Denovo tyre would not burst and quickly deflate, but could continue to be used safely at speeds of up to 50 mph. This was a useful safety feature, although the increased road noise and relatively poor grip of this tyre meant that many 1275GT buyers ignored this option.

:xxx:

Remember being hurtled round Silverstone on a press day in a Mk10 Jag on Denovos with an explosive charge to make the front offside (I think) run flat. We were all duly impressed and retired to the bar but I don't remember writing much after that.

Amazing how technology advances things, my old mans bimmer has bridgestone runflats on and they are great.

He got a puncture about 40 miles after he picked the car up last year (new from a dealer) and if it hadnt been for the little message on the screen saying "you have a puncture, please visit your nearest BMW service centre immediately" he wouldnt have known it had happened !

Get a spare steely from a scrapyard :xxx:
