    One Carb Or Two?

Think I need to adjust my fast idle screw. Before the process of starting the car from cold would consist of pulling the choke all the way out, then after a few seconds I would hear it start to flood, so I would push it in about halfway and it would be fine, gradually pushing it all the way in as it warmed up.

Lately the car starts fine when cold with the choke all out, but just doesn't idle very high. Then as soon as it starts to flood I will push the choke in halfway and the revs drop right down (about 400 rpm). It stops it from flooding and doesn't cut out but it sounds really rough. If I keep my foot slightly on the throttle it idles fine, which leads me to think its the fast idle screw that needs adjusting? Once it starts to warm up it runs normally.

So first question being: does it sound like it could be the fast idle needing adjustment? Second question: I think I have a HS4 carb, so is the fast idle screw the one located just below the choke mechanism? Third question: To increase the RPM do I need to turn the screw clockwise or anti clockwise?

I have tried to look in Haynes but on this matter it doesn't really seem to be helpful.

Thanks,

The fast idle just uses the choke cam to open the throttle a bit. Pull the choke to just before it starts to move the jet, there should be an arrow on the cam to line up opposite the fast idle screw. Then adjust the screw to increase the revs 1200-1300 rpm should do.

Much easier if the engine has warmed up enough to idle off choke.

Yeah, unscrew the fast idle screw which operates the cam.
Don't touch the Idle screw if the engine idles normally when up to temperature.

Clockwise to increase RPM, anticlockwise to reduce.

Clockwise to increase RPM, anticlockwise to reduce.

That's for the idle screw, the op is talking about fast idle adjustment which is the opposite.
