Hi....recently bought a 1994 mini....was a sprite 1275 auto that has been converted to 998 manual.....the previous owner said that it still has its original front subframe.........is there a way to verify this ????.....is this auto subframe going to be of any detriment to the car....???....there is no lower ns gearbox tiebar mounting even though the car is a 1994.....I am guessing the auto box in the car did not originally have one....cheers for any replys....

Manual sub frames have the gearbox steady at the clutch end.

Lots of threads on here about converting auto to non-auto. Wrong subby won't matter mechanically if it's been converted properly. The only real issue is originality, which is probably much more of an issue on much earlier models.

The auto subframe should have extra mounts to be able to fit the manual.

An Auto's frame is wider between the surfaces that the engine mounts bolt to. The hole spacing for the engine mount under the radiator is wider.

All you need to do to fit a manual engine into an Auto's frame is use the Auto's engine mount from under the radiator side and fit a 3/8" packer washer between the clutch housing cover and the engine mount on that side.

My auto frame didn't have the lower engine steady either so I just fabricated one along with an exhaust bracket as these differ too.

If it has been converted properly then it should be fine.
