The restoration of this Mini was first stumbled across by TMF member 'miniman24' back in 2010 and having rediscovered it the other day when researching into early Mini's exported to India in the 1960's, I thought it was a story worthwhile re-posting with some photos and for those who may have missed it or not been members of TMF back then.

A Very Inspiring Project!

This ongoing 1961 Mini restoration is being carried out in Pakistan since 2009 but is currently on hold while the owner is away studying in Canada. The panel beater (denter) is very talented, he makes a mk1 bootlid from scratch as well as the bootfloor and many other panels and even rebuilds a very rusty rear subframe!

"This thread (9 pages so far) is dedicated to the restoration of my first car, a 1961 Morris Mini Minor, simply 'Mini' for convenience.
My infatuation with vintage and classic cars goes far back, how far even i'm not sure of. I found this car on pakwheels in the summer of 2007.
As with all passions, there isn't much rational explanation to the time and effort spent on these cars and i feel theres no need.this is a warning to all those people who think its a waste of time and money and whatnot
From here on, i shall let the pictures tell the story, feel free to comment/suggest and this thread goes with a call out to everyone and anyone who can help me find parts for this car in pakistan, key word being pakistan."

"Parts for my Minis are hard to come by in Pakistan. Likewise in Canada you can't always find what you need, not anywhere near you anyway.
The guy you see working on the car in the pictures is a seasoned panel beater, he used to make Cabs for big buses and coaches before. He has a gift for copying/fabricating panels and that too using his bare hands and the most basic tools.
The previous owner had installed an 800cc Suzuki 3 cylinder petrol engine out of a Suzuki Mehran, a common car in these parts. But it was a botched operation, alongwith every other modification. I hope to restore it to its original state, then perhaps get a more powerful engine and do a rally spec build, finances permitting."
