Hi guys! I am new to this forum and I am trying to get an answer about my exhaust as I cannot find the details anywhere on the net and I am currently away from my car so I can't check it too :(

Anyway I am planing to fit a silencer on my exhaust make it pass the mot back home (cyprus). Each tailpipe is 2.5" which is 63mm however I need to know the inlet diameter of the exhaust so I can purchase some db killers from ebay.

Link below is the exhaust I currently have on my mini.

One of the db killers I found on ebay

Any help would be much appreciated.

Why do you need silencers? I'll assume the exhaust is too loud?

In the uk we dont need silencers for minis as they are under 110 db

Exhaust sound is not too much on idle but its very loud when you use the car on a motorway.

But I will need to fit some silencers to make it pass the mot in Cyprus.

The current MOT wording in the UK means that the exhaust may not be any louder than it was when the car was built. There is no specific testable sound pressure level for cars once they have been registered, they are tested according to standards when type approved or SVA'd.

Where did you get 110 db from?

My car produces 110 db peak, which the vosa official deems excessive... Yet it is not as loud as a Toyota supra we had in being tested(which surprisingly passed the noise test( there was an official book with this data, i believe via SVA testers

Are there any known values for mini though? Particularly a998 which is is going to be at years 20 years old. If this is ever put in to practice most minis will fail!

Ever put into practice? It's the current rule and has been for a couple of years! No there are no published figures for Minis as there are for more modern cars, but equally a car MOT station isn't required to have sound level meters and using one is outside the test, it's left to the testers hearing. Bikes are tested to a specific limit, and cars are SVAd to 105 dBa, but for the car MOT it's just up to what the tester can hear. The rule was tightened up to be compared with the same car leaving the factory as previously the wording was poor and chavs were getting away with stupidly loud cars. The old wording meant the car could be compared to one that was similarly modified, which of course it would always pass.
