Hey,

I am having a little trouble with fitting a boot hinge panel.

I can’t get it to fit right to the boot weather seal, it seams as if I make this fit that the curve of the new panel is wrong and the water seal will not work where the boot lid meets it,

Here are some pictures to show you how it just does not meet up to the boot lid,

Attached File  WP_20140923_007.jpg   33.86K   50 downloads

I was wondering if any one else had these problems with these panels,

Was wondering if it is worth getting a genuine one, although the problem there is they only do a full width one which is £175, and for a bit extra i might as well pay £200 and get this http://www.minispare...px|Back to shop

as there is a small bit of rust around one of my rear light.

Does any one know the best way to fit the non genuine hinge panels or anyway of making the water seal work

Thanks in advance

Marcus

I assume it is a magnum panel?

The problem with magnum panels is that they always need modifying to fit.

You will have to bend, cut, modify, adjust the panel as necessary to get it to fit.

Plenty of people have managed but it's not that straightforward i'm afraid.

Good luck

Ben

Magnum panels are not good especially those hinge panels. Now personally i would go for the full width hinge panel over the centre section.

Now a bodyshop fitted one to my Clubman before i bought it and its crap pure and simple. Now due to the other accident damage which the hinge panel was part of is now forcing me to buy the panel you have linked in your post.

I have just fitted a full width Heritage panel to Wills Mini Special and it was a nice easy fit and everything lines up a treat.

Yeah its a magnum panel, I have fount that you need to make there other panels fit some how also, just because of the shape of this one i find it hard to bend.

I was thinking of using the newer kind of boot seal ( http://www.minispare...|Back to search ) in the hope that if I can make the boot lid fit flush with the body and the right gap between lid and body then I can bridge the gab between with this type of seal, or add extra rubber to some spots.

I wonder if some people fit these magnum panel without realising the seal is fully compressed all the way along

Thank Marcus

I've recently bought the full 3/4 rear panel in favour of the boot hinge panel both Heritage and I'm in the process of fitting it and I tried the Heritage boot rail which was hard to make it look good so I sold it.

ok cool,

So you fitted this one :

rather than :

https://www.minispar...19.aspx|Back to

I thought about that rather than the bottom repair as its only £25 more

Thanks

Thank you for all you comments and it seems people are not so happy with the magnum hinge panels,

but what I don't understand is why do they still sell them? ,

people must buy them and get good results, and I see alot of them on other peoples project pages.

Would just like to know if its me that cant fit it, before i splash out on buy a full width one

Thanks

Marcus

Magnum panels differ in quality from one to the other. I have heard of people having trouble with the floor panels not fitting but i bought one for my project and it went straight in with no problems at all.

I have seen many of these magnum hinge panels fitted in projects on here but can't remember which ones now.

Might pay to have a look through some of the projects.

I am fitting a complete rear panel on mine but its a reclaimed one

check out my build thread, a few pages from the most recent post, you will see that i bought the back half of a Mini which was an abandoned trailer project and carefully removed the panels from it to re-use on my Mini.

was time consuming but well worth it as those rear panels are £200 new! And the one i reclaimed is solid with just some minor surface rust on the rear bumper flange which i will repair before i fit it.

Someone on here is selling the rear half of a Mini for £30 i think so check out the for sale section to see if it is close enough to you and also what condition the panel is in.

Might be helpful to you and perhaps the chance of reclaiming some other panels to use or sell on?

Cool I will take a look,

Very good idea,

Only problem is they sell very quick and I work away from home for months at a time so quickly picking it up could be a problem, but ill work something out

Thank you

Marcus

The other option would be to contact minijosh on here. he has a small Mini breakers and i enquired recently about a lower dash rail and he said i could just come and cut one off of a shell he had there.

Only thing is that he is in Ashford, Kent so i don't know how far you are from there?

Ben

Edit: Exeter, so way too far!

Perhaps pop up a wanted ad on here?

Nice, thanks for the advice

I will decide what to do whilst I am away with work, and ill post up what i finally do

When I get home I might also pop along to a classic car guy i know in Exeter (he is a specialist in Ford Anglias, but does all classics and has done a few minis) he builds most of his panels from scratch, so he might be able to make a cheap magnum one a bit better, etc

Thanks

Marcus

Yeah mine has the rubber on the boot lid also, just dont seem to push into the rubber all the way around, does yours seal up nice and every thing with no leaks.

Thanks

Marcus
