With the myriad of exhaust manifolds out there what is considered the best regardless of application there's so many stage 2, stage 3, 3 into 1 etc

I dont think so

Might be better contacting maniflow themselves, its not an high volume production item (and quite an old design aswell)

I guess i would be thinking about your application so engine and head spec, plus what you can fit within your engine bay restrictions.

There is no 'best regardless of application'. The engine specification and application is important. For example, if for rallying, it must be quiet and give best mid-range torque as well as top end power. If for racing, it must give optimum gas velocity at the peak power revs.

For road use it needs to give optimum torque, so the pipe diameter needs to be smaller than a race one unless torque & power are to be lost.

For most road engines, the RC40 or Maniflow systems with a 1,75" diameter pipe is the best compromise. Never use twin or larger diameter end pipes unless a loss of power is acceptable.
