Hi, i'm really sorry to those of you who have seen countless threads like this (I've been reading through quite a lot of them!) but I couldn't find a definitive answer that would help.

I own a 1983 Mini City E, it's my first car and my pride and joy. I have owned it for around a year and its been parked in a garage until a couple of days ago when I had to move it (also my first time driving since I passed my test months ago, so that was pretty scary!). It's got 10 inch wheels and drums.

I topped up the brake fluid with Comma Oil DOT 3, as thats what is on the reservoir cap, but now i'm starting to wonder if I should have gone with DOT 4?

I also need to top up the clutch fluid as it is getting a little low, is it okay to use the same the stuff?

Final problem (sorry again!) is that the oil needs topping up. After an interesting afternoon of going through different threads I am still not sure if I should top up with the oil I have bought. Its Auto Care 10w/40 Oil, API SL/CF: ACEA A2, B2, Mineral Oil

Sorry if I've managed to post this in the wrong place, kinda new and never posted before,

Thanks!

Brake fluid: DOT 3 will be fine for the top up. If you don't know when it was last changed, get it changed.

Clutch: DOT 3 or 4 will be fine again for top up, but again, get it replaced if you don't know how old it is.

Oil: 20w50 mineral is the correct stuff if it is manual. Again, get it changed if it hasn't been in the last 4000 miles.

Ive done 6k on 20/50 comma classic oil ;)

On a serious note

Change the oil, filter, brake/clutch fluid if youre putting it on the road( i give my cars a full service

Oil+ filter

Air filter

Spark plugs and leads

Dizzy cap and rotor arm

Grease points(new nipples all round)

Sounds like a lot of money but really only £50

I would get it changed then. I never leave oil in more than 3000 miles or one year in A series engines.

Awesome thanks for the quick reply guys, (and i'm jealous of your nice shiny cars!). I'm still a noob when it comes to mechanicals, the most I've done to the car so far is get the windows out and back in, and fit a new bonnet  .

I need to get it down the road to fit new wheels and tyres, then it looks like I have to do some oil/fluid/dizzy related shopping.

Thanks again!

Oh also, buy an elecrtonic conversion kit if it has points, the kits are more reliable

I must say I go OTT on the brake /clutch fluid having boiled the stuff approaching Druids at over 100. I now use Motul 600 in my track car and to keep it simple use it in all the vehicles. OTT for my son's mini, but at least I know that's not the thing that will let you down

I tend to get stuff from Opie when it's on discount, got the mini classic 20/50 from them too.
