Immobiliser Won't Disable After Battery Went Flat

Best Answer Fast Ivan , 26 September 2014 - 10:05 PM

are you sure the battery was charged enough? might be worth charging it over night and testing the voltage

also might be the battery in the key fob

also worth making sure your earths are all good

try the simple things first

I've just jumped started my 97 Cooper after its battery went flat after about two weeks on my drive. The car started fine and i left it running for a while. I turned her off then a few seconds later tried to re-start her but the immobiliser wouldn't disable - nothing happens when i turn the keys despite pressing the immobiliser buttons. The red light stays on of course. What's wrong? I'm assuming it's related to the battery going flat as it was working fine every day before the period inactivity.

I feel ashamed but i know nothing about cars... I'm learning though!

On my mx5 the alarm had an internal battery. If the battery was disconnected the internal battery was ok for a while but would drain and prevent the alarm from being turned off. Even with a good battery attached it would take half an hour before I could switch off the alarm. Not sure if that is the problem with yours, but worth a look.

Check battery in keyfob could be co-incedent butcheck it and the internal conditions of the keyfob are okay. Battery type 2032

Next check it is sync'nd with the car; 5 to 8 press unlock on keyfob to resync

Do bumps work in this forum? Haven't used a forum since Runescape years ago :L But anyway the problem still isn't solved despite another jump. The immobiliser just won't disable. Next I'll try replacing the fob battery. Anyone know how to open the damn thing?

Coin or screwdriver in the end with the ring.

One little point, make sure you've pressed the disable on the key fob BEFORE you put the keys in the ignition and click it around at all.
