Hi guys, my daily drive 1993 Rover metro has its original tape dec, ive just bought the car and it came with very little paperwork, ive had to change the battery but this of cause has made the radio ask for the code, and I dont have it. How can I get it/what can i do? Alternatively, i have put an after-market stereo in my mini so still have its original tape dec and code, this will do just fine for me, but i cant work out how to get the old rover one out...... any ideas?

I can't help with the code part

But if I remember right and it's the same as my 95 rover100

There will be 4 holes in the corners of the radio...they might have small grub screws in that need removing

And then you need to push something in there about the same size as the holes, all at the same time to release it and then pull

I have a set of radio keys that i made myself for DIN and Double DIN head units. I made them out of brazing rods cut to size and bent to shape with notches filed into the ends to grip the retainer.

Then all you do is slip them in the holes until the notch engages with the retainer and then pull on them.

But alternatively you can buy them cheap on eBay.

Sometimes you can get away with inserting a couple of precision screwdrivers into the holes but some head units require the notch to disengage the lock tabs before it will slide out.

There are quite a few websites where you pay a small fee and provide them with the serial number from the head unit and they e-mail you the code.

I did one a few years back for a Vauxhall head unit. Think it was £6.50

See your PMs for the code.  This is from the serial number and should be correct, unless someone has manually changed the code. :shades:
