Are there any MOT testers on here?

Not to get into the finer points of it but fitting different seats to my mini, I'm quite tall so the seat is further back so not attached to the crossmember in the usual manner.

So the question

Do seats have to slide or can they be fixed in position for an MOT?

Brackets for fixed seats are going to be soooo much easier to fabricate and only I drive it anyway, no access to back seats required (no rear seat belts anyway as too old) and you cant get in anyway as front seats are a lot further back.

cheers

Ian

Fixed seats are fine for MOT in my experience. Also rally cars have fixed seats and they have to have MOTs for when driving between stages

My seats are both fixed and they went straight through the MoT last week.

Im an ex tester,  as long as the seat is secure and does not move when rocked then it should not cause a problem.

Hope this helps !

Agree with the above comments, I believe that fixed seats are fine the only stipulation as far as test is concerned is that if the drivers seat is adjustable the adjusting mechanism must work.

I was under the impression that following a recent change the drivers seat now had to be adjustable.

MOT Testers Manual - Section 6.2 Doors & Seats

"Method of Inspection - 3.Check that the drivers seat position can be adjusted forwards and backwards and secured in the selected positions.

"Reason For Failure - 3.The drivers seat fore and aft adjustment mechanism not functioning as intended."

Yeah I was kind of assuming that it was referring to how the manufacturer intended them to function, but I guess you could try and argue that point!

Mine are fixed solid; there are no sliders and the electrics for the back adjust aren't working (I forgot to fix them), the tester didn't mention it. Mind you, it might be a discretion thing?

Good find AVV IT thanks

Think a chat with the tester is required as best course of action.

I would read that as if the sliders are there then they should work but if fixed ie not meant to move as a road legal rally car for examplethey work as intended ie dont move!

Well just confuse matters

MOT place 1 said drivers seat must move fore/aft although the passenger side can be fixed

MOT place 2 said they can both be fixed

Nowt like clearing things up!

I spoke to my test about this 6 months ago and he said that if the adjuster/slider mechanism is present for the MOT it must work. Therefore if I had seats without sliding mechanism or removed them from standard seat he wouldn't fail it.
