Wing A-Panel Fitting Order

Best Answer sonikk4 , 01 October 2014 - 10:59 AM

I would slave the wing in first then attach the A panel. The wing will be the most laborious thing as it takes a while to get it to sit correctly.

And by this I mean gapping for the bonnet and getting it to fit nicely around the scuttle. Use self tappers to hold it in place for checking the bonnet gap.

Also a lot depends on the panels you are using. I have just fitted Heritage front end panels and it went well. No real issues. Go to the full post

For those who havent seen my last few threads, i am in the middle of dealing with mr rust. I have removed the drivers side wing, and found a little bit of rust on the a-panel. I was thinking i might as well replace the a-panel, before my respray. Just wondering what order i should replace the a-panel, wing first or a-panel first?

thanks

Richard

The one thing that may affect your A panel fitment is if you have changed the flitch panel. The flange on the new flitches can be a bit hit or miss width wise so look out for that.

There have been issues on here with the A panel to wing flange gap being too big as well which then needed an extra section being added.

With everything pinned in place you can adjust things a bit to give you a reasonable gap between the door and A panel. So don't weld everything together straight away, keep playing with it till you are as happy as possible as this will help to keep your work down.

Flitch panel will be the same (hopefully - dont know how bad it will be until i take the old a-panel off!) I am planning on lining up the wing tonight, still undure whether i'll replace the a-panel or not. it looks ok, a wee bit of rust at the bottom!
