Hello all.

I was a bit bored so i decided to have a look into the original supplying dealership of my Mini 25.

I have the original rear number plate which although is severely de-laminated, is still legible.

It says 'CYRIL GRIFFITHS NUTLEY 2166' and then has a logo listing Austin, Morris, Rover, Triumph and one last one that i can't make out. I have added a photograph below.

Does anyone have or know any information on this dealer? My car is a 1984 and i can't find any information on them on-line.

All i can find out is that Nutley is in Uckfield, East Sussex.

When my restoration is complete, i thought it would be really nice to re create the original supplying dealership numberplates and if possible, finish it off with a rear window dealer sticker and tax disc holder.

Now i know it's a massive long shot but surely there must be a chance of somehow getting a sticker re-produced but to do this, i would need to see an example of the original sticker. perhaps someone has a Cyril Griffiths window sticker in their Mini?

I would love to hear from anyone that does.

If this doesn't work out, does anyone know if the logo's and writing can be re-produced onto a new numberplate?

here are the pictures.

Thanks

Ben

You'd find that logo somewhere I reckon - maybe the AROnline site, or Flickr? Have found a lot of Austin Rover dealer stickers and plate while searching for ideas to do something similar on our Minis. I should probably collate them into some sort of gallery ...

The Cyril Griffiths text will be a standard font, Helvetica is always a safe starting point :) A local print shop ought to be able to print them onto a clear sticker, which you could get whoever is making up your plates to apply to the reflective backing before sticking to the clear plastic 'body' of the plate.

Fantastic information mate!

Thanks.

I have seen the logo before on here somewhere.

I will have a look on aronline, even if i spot an 80's car in the galleries with a cyril griffiths sticker on it, that would be a starting point

Cheers

Ben

No probs, spotted the logo here on the PJ Evans flyer : http://www.theminifo...1980s90s/page-4

Also, this guy has a ton of dealer stickers in his photostream, you might get lucky with one from Cyril! https://www.flickr.c...os/7430965@N05/

Found a lovely RSP for sale today, whilst looking for a R570 radio for my Cooper - at Nutley Sports, previously known as Nutley Garage, and was a Morris dealer in the 1960s, but they don't have info after that - I wonder if that was Cyril's era? :)

I heard back from Nutley sports and they say there is no connection.

Back to the drawing board!

Should have done this last week :) Dug out my 1989 Rover Dealer directory ......

Uckfield
Cyril Griffiths Ltd., Splaynes Green Works, Splaynes Green, Fletching, TN22 3TN
The 2166 on your plate was their phone number. Not sure if that's any great help, but might help you get a bit closer to tracking down their history.

Just e-mailed B&B trailers which i believe are operating out of Cyril Griffiths old premises. They have been there since 1998 so possibly could have taken over directly after Cyril Griffiths?

You could try finding a local history group, they often have photos and knowledge of the local area compiled over the decades. Most areas are covered.

Matt.
