Question for US owners of classic Minis.

One of my headlights is out (as well as mismatched) in my '82.

I see the manual calls for H4 bulbs, which cross-references to a 9003 here in the states.

However, the 9003 does not fit in my socket. The socket in my light has two rings, a smaller one and a second, larger "stepped" base circle held in by the retaining clip. A 9003 just has a  single, smaller base with three pins.

Every parts store that looks up H4 gives me a 9003. I brought in the original an everyone was stumped.

Is there a different name in the US for the correct style of H4?

Thanks!

Can you post up a photo?  Sounds like an old version of the H4 bulb....can't remember the exact name though (it is a version of H4).

Assuming it is this issue, I had the same problem when I bought some oldschool halogens from a dude up in scotland.  He failed to mention the bulb type or the fact they are for left hand drive :shy:  but i got round the bulb issue with some subtle and cunning modification to the bulb carrier area.

Post up a photo and i'll see if it is the same problem i had and can show you how i overcame it.
