I know the guy  built the AJB44B replica. In fact I did the cam timing for him. It's a very nice car, but is it worth the guide price? probably as it has been very well done.

The real  original AJB44B would be worth 3 times the guide price for this replica. Even then you wouldn't know how 'genuine' it would be as all those 'works' cars were re-built, re-shelled and had their identities changed for different events.

It does sometimes make me wonder what my 1964 rally 'S' is worth, not that I would ever sell it.

How have they extended the arches on AJB? Looks similar to how i thought about doing it and still making it look standard

Cheers james

There was an article in a recent MCR 'CooperWorld' magazine by someone who was in the BMC Works team at the time, telling the story of how the very first Mini wheel arch extensions were hand made from metal and fitted to conform with new rules in rallying when using wider wheels and later became the fibreglass extensions on sale through the BMC special tuning dept. If I can find it I will scan the article and post it here later.

I think that is not the best auction for that Mini. It would be more likely to fetch its best price at one of the Silverstone auctions or at Race-Retro. That auction house is not far from me so I think I'll go along and see what it makes.

There is also a very nice 1964 850 which has quite a low guide price. It seems to have had a Cooper gearbox conversion as it has a remote gear lever, but it looks clean and 'unmolested', so it might make well over its guide price.

Did "Stan the Man" Wire it?

It looks a bit different to the original "Comp Dept" spec.

I don't know who wired it, but if you look you will see that it has a heated screen with the horizontal bus-bars. That screen came from my Cooper 'S' as he needed the early type heated screen and I was keen to fit one without the visible bus-bars. So he bought me a new heated screen and we swapped them over - both then happy.

Chris Spennewyn from Hitchin did a lot of the body restoration and he owns a genuine ex-works car, CRX88B, so he knew how to do the body-shell mods.

It is a very nice car, well-researched and top quality work.

My thoughts are that around £40k is about the true value. Anyone else coming to that auction?
