hey all
Since I had the first electric problem on my mini (solved now), and having lots of problems with the terrible wiring, I was thinking about re-doing it properly, and relocating some items, like the hazard and indicator flasher unit, fusebox etc...
anybody did that or had this kind of project before? I have time, it's just a matter of knowing exactly what is where and make it easy to replace, trace... maybe with some multicore cables... just an idea though

Yep, mine has a custom loom built from scratch by my brother as he's an electrician. Its marvellous, not only is it feather weight, as there are only the bare minimum of cables to run the essential things, its also reliable with no hidden surprises....

when i use a webber box or turbo box in the bulkhead of a mini i have to move the loom inside the car.i think they should of all been done like this from factory...its a real easy job,as soon as you have un pluged all the rear lights near the wiper motor them loom will come back inside the car with ease, once you have it like that you can swap it all about if need be as you can see it all a lot clearer

I'm doing one for my car. I have a set of proper fuse boxes and relay boxes to mount in the car under the dash, and the rest of the cables will be pared down to the bare minimum. Plus it give me an option to fit something a little special for the decent engine when it goes in, AND the chance to upgrade the lights properly so that i can actually see where i'm going in the dark!
At the end of the day, it won't be much more (if not less) than a replacement harness, so why not take the opportunity to do it properly?

Loads of electrical failures just waiting to happen!!
See my project thread as to where i have mounted my fusebox and relays, at least the lights should be bright instead of a dim yellow colour!!!
Cheers
