Gearbox/transfer Casing

Best Answer Guess-Works.com , 07 October 2014 - 07:32 AM

Apart from the diameter of the idler gear shafts are different...

Ignore what type of engine it is, as that makes no difference what so ever.

What you can do is run a A+ gearbox with an A series transfer case but you need to run A series transfer gears and replace the idler gear bearing in the gearbox with a conversion bearing, eg... http://www.minispare...ic/DAM3745.aspx

What you can also di is run an A series gearbox with an A+ transfer case but again, you need to use A series transfer gears but this time replace the idler bearing in the transfer case with the conversion bearing mentioned above...

What you can't do is run an A+ gearbox with A series transfer case and expect A+ transfer gears to fit... they wont...

and you shouldn't run an A+ gearbox or transfer case with A series transfer gears, without the conversion bearing as it'll make a lot of noise and you'll end up with gearbox full of idler gear, a broken transfer case and gearbox case, and probably a fairly mullered engine.

Hello,

I was just wondering if you can put an A+ gearbox on a pre A+ engine w/the pre A+ transfer casing??

I know you have to use either all A+ or all pre A+ drop gears, can't mix and match...

Many thanks,

Iain.

I couldn't see anything wrong with it...

Just the idler gear on an A+ has the same length shaft... Didn't know if this would cause a problem with a pre a+ transfer casing, because the pre a+ idler gear has different length shafts...?
