Okay thanks, thinking about installing the 1.5:1 ratio rocker tips on my 1275 rover would this be just a straight swap or would have to upgrade other things aswell? I know I'd have to set the tappets again and what's the standard rocker ratio ?

Standard is about 1.24:1 I think.

Ultimately stage 2 is just a number.

I had a head ported and polished for my use (fast road).

It needs to be fit for purpose and matched to other components (cam, compression etc)

You may find you lose power with 1.5:1 rockers in certain area of the rev range and gain when flat out.

What are you using the car for?

I don't use my car for competition or anything just use it for fun and going to work in every so often, I've not added any engine performance parts as yet, but considering it. Just because I want to give it a little more power without spending stupid amounts of money or having to upgrade most of the components just to get a slight performance increase. I'm going to get getting a maniflow exhaust system

Cool bet that's a good increase then! So would you recommend changing the rockers or change something else ?

If I was to change the rockers here's the ones if go for would I need anything ? I except for a new gasket

It's hard because you don't know what you've got.

The standard head is very poor on the A-series engine and porting work gives big improvements.

Calculating the compression ratio, and having it adjusted will help, then a fast road cam.

Something like this maybe?

I was thinking about a cam but thought they'd be mega bucks, that seems like a good idea, so basically that would just be the best way for an increase would I have to change other things when fitting the cam such as bigger valves or is the cam you said just a straight swap ? I really appreciate your help and knowledge thanks

Camshafts for the A-series are a relatively cheap way of releasing extra power, if you are confident you can take out the engine and fit it yourself. Otherwise it gets expensive paying a garage to do camshaft change.

Cam is swap usually done together with head improvements, and it helps to have these cam & head modifications well matched.

I'm fairly confident of doing a camshaft change as I will also ask mechanics I know to help me out. But I don't fancy taking all the block out that's all

If  you want other rockers : get 1.3 ratio for a road engine ;)

This is good advice.

You kind of need to know what you've got head wise though

Don't forget the exhaust boys, no point spending time on the cam and head without getting rid of all of the gases. Then of course there's the carb as well. That will need a reprofiled needle and a good setup on the rolling road to optimize everything.
