ive increased the studs on the rear to 80mm to compensate the width of my comp turbo rim, however im left with 3mm of stud length.

do you think ill be ok with this little thread or shall i order some 85's?

That looks way too short to me. Depending on who you listen to, 6-9 full turns as a minimum seems the ball park.

I would go longer to err on the side of safety.

What sort of seat do the wheels have - taper or cone?  (it looks almost flat in that picture)

Depending on the depth of the nut, I would be looking at 90mm studs at least

I don't know of a nut that has a flat seat without it being a sleeve type nut.  It must be relying on the wheel being a good fit over the studs to make sure it's centred properly.

What does the nut look like?

the wheel sits snug in the studs, the nuts are just standard wheel nuts

No where near enough to be honest. Id go longer, and as above are the face of the alloy coutersunk to take the shape of you nuts or do the just sit flat against the alloy? Dont risk loosing a wheel at 80mph mate. Id say maybe 90mm too.

Might be a daft question, but is that 6-9 fully turns just mini size, or any car?

works for any car as far as I know. I understand it comes from 1-1.5 x diameter. I.e if the nut is an M10 it should have between 10 and 15mm of thread in it, ideally the 15mm. Have seen a few variances on the principle and it's obviously affected by pitch but as a rule of thumb it errs on the safe side if anything.
