I was told by Cooperman on here and numerous other people I know in Minis etc. that the correct amount of thread engagement is 1.5 x stud diameter. Therefore, GENERALLY, with Minis, you need a 15mm thread engagement. 

 

That above looks totally unsafe to me.

General engineering rule of thumb is that the depth of thread engagement is at least equal to the diameter. With (cone) wheel nuts I'd want all the nut threads engaged. No alloy will have a direct fit to a cone seated nut. I have Compomotives that fit with the original nuts for steel rims, they have steel inserts to provide the seat. Clean 'em so you can get a better idea, is there a pressed in seat?

ive increased the studs on the rear to 80mm to compensate the width of my comp turbo rim, however im left with 3mm of stud length.
 
do you think ill be ok with this little thread or shall i order some 85's?
 

Oh that is a stud we are meant to be looking at. Thought it was a hole.

Way way too short.

I guess the wheels use nuts? And you are putting how much power into the engine? I would be wanting the thread showing out of the nut.

LOL, its a b18 conversion so about 170bhp
