Is there any DIY ways to sort out tracking? I have heard someone say they use string but didn't quite get it.

You can use a string box set up around the car yes.

On flat land (as perfectly flat as poss) and ideally with small metal plates under the front wheels (to allow dry steering without too much issue) set up two string lines down each side of the car at an equal distance from the car, most people make up a rod to attatch to both front and rear of the car.

Now centre the steering (using assistants to measure the distance of the front and rear of both front wheels and equalise this. Then you can measure the toe of both front and rear wheels. (the difference in distance from the front of the wheel and the string line compared to the rear of the wheel and the string line. Camber is best measured with either a plumb or a camber gauge.

I don't know if castor can be measured in this way.

Now this is only engineering theory as I havent yet done this myself but its on my to do list soon!

Or just put Diy tracking with string or some such into google. There are even you tube videos on it.

No.  They are narrower at the rear.  But almost every car will have different track front and rear so thats nothing to really worry about.

If you are mainly concerned with the front toe readings, look at the information in the link below for the pin method.  I have used this on my father-in-law's race car and a friend's Mini.  It is easy to do if you have a level place to work on and that location has room to roll the car forward and back.

Regarding narrower at the rear, please see the thread and web sites linked below.
