I need to replace the fuel pipe that connects to the bottom of the fuel tank on a carb model and passes through the boot floor (85 Mayfair). Do I just need a length of standard fuel hose cut to size, or a specific molded fuel hose? All the specific fuel tank hoses that I can find seem to be only for fuel injection models.

Double check the diameter.  8mm seems quite large but this may be different on later cars.  I am confident that my car has 1/4" inside diameter hose between its tank and pump.  This is "regular" low-pressure hose, not high-pressure hose for fuel injection and not a pre-molded piece.

Yes Doug I agree, I thought standard classic fuel pipe was 1/4" too (which by my calculations is about 6mm)

Sorry ti piggy back this thread but I am after the same info.

The 1/4" metal pipe from back to front is definitely narrower to the petrol tank outlet.  I can just about squeeze a 1/4" pipe on the outlet but it's not right in my opinion.  Is there a special tank to metal pipe fitting ???

Are you using the terms pipe and hose interchangeably?  I have never seen a transition piece used on Mini fuel plumbing.

I am sure there were fuel plumbing changes over the years so others may report things differently than me.  I have 1/4" rubber fuel line for every flexible part of my car's fuel system plumbing.  I know the fuel tank tube measures about 0.281" (9/32" or 7mm) in diameter.  1/4" rubber tube fits that nicely with a little push and twist.

Err yes, I didn't realise I'd used both terms to describe the same thing. In the end I used a 10" length of braided 1/4" hose/pipe, which hopefully won't crack/perish like the original didl. (Mind you, when you consider that the original had probably lasted for 29 years, I can't really complain,)
