Is the strap bolted in at the bottom of the tank?

I would have a good look around it to check now wires/pipes are just hitting the tank on bumps and bends.

It'It's definitely not anything hitting the tank, it's the tank itself moving. You might be able to see in the picture that the strap seems really loose but not sure why cause it'd tight at both ends

I wonder whether a bit of rubber between the tank and strap would tighten it all up?

The strap doesn't look to be in quite the right place. First thing to check - look at the bolt that fixes the strap, does it also go through a hole in the pressing at the bottom of the tank? It shouldn't do, but a lot of people see that hole and think it nearly lines up so make it work. It ends up with a wobbly tank the symptoms you describe.

If it isn't that then I would be looking at Carlos's suggestion of a bit of rubber padding.

The strap has never really sat in the right place, when tightening the bolt for the strap I try and hold it in place but it just won't stay there. Never really paid any attention to the hole in the tank I just know that it's fastened to the boot floor
